BEEKEEPING AS A FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENT OF SUSTAINABLE AGROECOSYSTEMS AND FOOD SECURITY

Synopsis

Beekeeping plays a fundamental role in ensuring the sustainability of agroecosystems, as the pollination activity of honeybees contributes to the restoration of biodiversity and increases the productivity of both cultivated and wild plants. Contemporary studies confirm that pollination efficiency directly affects crop yields and product quality. Experiments involving different pollinators have demonstrated that access of honeybees to agricultural crops significantly increases both the number and weight of fruits. Food security is also closely linked to beekeeping. Bee products are a source of bioactive compounds that enhance the nutritional value of the diet, are used in many innovative products, and contribute to disease prevention.
